SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, who passed away on July 29, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous was born to Frank and Lucille (Christopher) Kerous on March 26, 1940; he graduated from Morton High School in 1957, where he excelled at academics and swimming and was the editor in chief of the 1957 Mortonian yearbook; he attended Knox College in Galesburg, where he continued to swim with the swimming team; he was also a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity; he married Sandra Erland on March 16, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he obtained a doctoral degree in dental surgery, followed by two years of specialty training in periodontics; he was one of the first periodontists in the Chicago suburbs, maintaining offices in Arlington Heights and Oak Brook for many years; he began teaching at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1964, where he spent 38 years in the Department of Periodontics, eventually becoming a tenured faculty member; after retirement, he was the Clinical Director of Periodontics and spent most of his time preparing senior students for board examination; he and his wife opened and operated McDonald's franchises in the Glenview area in the late 1970s; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous and his wife were early members of Christ Church of Oak Brook; he was secretary of the board of elders for many years and the principal architect of the Christ Church endowment fund in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous was elected a trustee of Knox College in 1974, and made a life trustee in 2009; he was President of the Knox alumni association from 1974 to 1976, and chaired three capital fund drives; he was made an Honor Delta TKE in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Karen (Richard) Kooy, Kathryn (David) Voss, and Frank (Emily) Kerous V; and his grandchildren, Luke, Julia, Joshua, Matthew, Elliana, Carrigan, and Annabel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Kerous as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
