SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Willie Spurlock, Jr., also known as Evangelist Emanuel Lee Israel, who passed away on August 26, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Willie Spurlock, Jr. was born on May 7, 1951 in Minter City, Mississippi; his parents were Will Sr. and Emma Davis Spurlock; he married Audrey Daniels Spurlock on May 7, 1973 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, Willie Spurlock, Jr. graduated from Classen High School in 1973 and attended Olive Harvey College; he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an administrative specialist; he received many accolades and awards during his Air Force service and was honorably discharged in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Willie Spurlock, Jr. enjoyed reading the Bible, attending various services around the community, evangelizing to inmates, visiting nursing homes, volunteering at Lincoln Challenge Academy, spending time with his family, and being of assistance whenever he was needed; and

WHEREAS, Willie Spurlock, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; and his siblings, Richard Spurlock and Inez Kelly; and

WHEREAS, Willie Spurlock, Jr. is survived by his children, Nakkia Williams, Lakesha Seck, Shaune Spurlock Winfield, Latoyia Spurlock, and Willie Spurlock III; his granddaughter, Destinie Spurlock; his siblings, Bobby Spurlock, Walter (Alice) Spurlock, Booker T. (Bernice) Spurlock, Roderick Spurlock, Samuel Spurlock, Harris Spurlock, Florence Spurlock, Diana (Tyrone) Spurlock Smith, and Rosie (James) Rouse; and many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Willie Spurlock, Jr., also known as Evangelist Emanuel Lee Israel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Willie Spurlock, Jr. as an expression of our sympathy.
