SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Catherine "Kay" Ann Shea of Wilmington, who passed away on December 21, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea was born on January 7, 1922 in Joliet; her parents were Bernard "Bert" and Helen (nee Tebeau) Staehely; she married John "Elmer" Shea on July 19, 1944 in Fort Knox, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea was raised in Joliet; she graduated from Joliet Township High School with the Class of 1940; she subsequently earned her Teaching Certification at Joliet Junior College; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea served as a teacher at the Minooka Country School; she later worked at Clennon Electric Company in Wilmington as a secretary; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea was a very active member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Wilmington, where she was involved with the Mother's Club, served on the Parish Council, and was a past officer of the Council of Catholic Women, who honored her with the Woman of the Year designation; she and her husband participated in the Catholic Family Movement; she was also a volunteer at the Kuzma Care Cottage; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea was preceded by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Peggy Weitekamp; and a son, Daniel Joseph Shea; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Shea is survived by a son, Deacon John P. (Lynette) Shea; a daughter, Kathryn S. Shea; a son-in-law, Larry (Nancy) Weitekamp; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly (David) Gray, Brett (Cara) Weitekamp, Erin J. (Scott) Smith, Kate Shea, Kendra Albritton, Devyn Wingater, Austin Weitekamp, Ryan Weitekamp, Kayla Weitekamp, Lauren Weitekamp, and Kaitlin Weitekamp; 11 great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Ethan, Matthew, Suzanne, Abigail Grace, Aiden, Chase, Madison, Asia, and Benjamin; and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Catherine "Kay" Ann Shea; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Catherine Shea as an expression of our sympathy.
