SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.17 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State may issue United Nations Protection Force license plates to residents who served in the United Nations Protection Force in Yugoslavia. Provides that the original issuance fee shall be $15 and the renewal fee shall be $2.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.17 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.17 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.17. United Nations Protection Force license
8plates.
9    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
10Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
11made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
12issue United Nations Protection Force license plates to
13residents of this State who served in the United Nations
14Protection Force in Yugoslavia. The special United Nations
15Protection Force plate issued under this Section shall be
16affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division and
17motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
188,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall expire
19according to the staggered multi-year procedure established by
20Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
21    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
22wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
23Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be

1issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
2Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
3designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
4Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall approve and
5prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412.
6    (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
7issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
8additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
9Special License Plate Fund. For each registration renewal
10period, a $2 fee, in addition to the appropriate registration
11fee, shall be charged and shall be deposited into the Secretary
12of State Special License Plate Fund.
