HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, House Resolution 38, currently before the 115th United States Congress, would create national reciprocity for concealed-carry licenses, requiring every state to accept the permits of the other 49, regardless of differences in standards for who is eligible to bring a concealed gun into public areas; and

WHEREAS, Licenses to carry concealed guns are issued by state and local authorities, who also decide which outside licenses that they will accept; this creates a confusing patchwork that often makes accidental criminals of gun owners who travel with their weapons, but do not know the local laws; and

WHEREAS, The passage of H.R. 38 would simplify these laws and expand the places that a law-abiding gun owner could safely carry their weapon in the event that they needed to defend themselves; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the 115th United States Congress to pass House Resolution 38 to create national reciprocity for concealed-carry licenses to simplify the laws and allow law-abiding gun owners to safely carry their weapons in the event that they needed to defend themselves; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
