HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Roselle Mayor Gayle A.
4Smolinski on the occasion of her retirement on May 12, 2017;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayor Smolinski has resided in Roselle for nearly
7four decades and has served the Village of Roselle as an
8elected official for 31 years, 24 of those as Mayor; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mayor Smolinski graduated from Bowling Green
10State University in 1974, where she earned her bachelor's
11degree in journalism/public relations; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1986, Mayor Smolinski began a distinguished
13career in public service when she was appointed as Trustee on
14the Roselle Village Board; she was elected as Trustee in 1989
15and then as Mayor in 1993; she was re-elected Mayor five times,
16and is currently the longest serving Mayor in DuPage County;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mayor Smolinski is a member and past President of
19the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; she is a member and past
20President of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference; and

1    WHEREAS, Mayor Smolinski is on the Board of Directors at
2Schaumburg Bank and Trust; she serves on the Board of Directors
3for the Hundred Club of DuPage County, and was an executive
4council member of Chicago Metropolis Strategies; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayor Smolinski's service to the community
6includes membership in the Roselle Chamber of Commerce, the
7American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and the advisory board of
8Stepping Stones, an organization that helps women of domestic
9violence; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Mayor Gayle A. Smolinski for her many years of
13community leadership in both the public sector and the private
14sector; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
16Mayor Smolinski.
