HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Rick VanBrooker on the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of McDonough County; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker grew up farming and started off working at a grain elevator and a grocery store; he always had an interest in law enforcement and joined the Plymouth Police Department in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker has had a 32-year career in law enforcement; he served for 12 years as Sheriff of McDonough County and spent 13 years with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office; he ran for Sheriff of McDonough County in 2005 and has been re-elected to three four-year terms; 2018 will be his last year as Sheriff of McDonough County; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker often goes above and beyond to help those in need; he has recently been taking an inmate to the Spoon River Outreach Center for a GED testing program; he has also worked with Western Illinois University to offer a GED program through the jail and has instituted a prisoner work program; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker has always felt that being a county sheriff should be a working position; he believes that the sheriff should not be tied to a desk and should be ready at a moment's notice to go into the field for any type of situation; he has demonstrated this belief countless times by being visible and active in his community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rick VanBrooker on his retirement as Sheriff of McDonough County, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sheriff VanBrooker as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
