HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Arun C. Pinto
4on his retirement from the Human Service Center after 14 years
5as the Senior Vice President and Corporate Medical Director;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Dr. Pinto has concurrently
8served as the Medical Director for several organizations,
9including the Human Service Center, the Children's Home
10Association of Illinois, and the Peoria County Adult and
11Juvenile Detention Center; he previously served as the Medical
12Director of Methodist Medical Center's Department of
13Psychiatry, where he was also the Chairman of the Department of
14Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto graduated from St. Xavier's College in
161966 and Seth G.S. Medical College in 1974; he completed
17internships with K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, India and Cook
18County Hospital in Chicago; he completed his residency in adult
19psychiatry and a fellowship in child psychiatry at Tulane
20University Affiliated Hospitals in New Orleans, Louisiana; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto served as an Assistant Professor and
22Clinical Instructor at Tulane Medical School from 1975 until

11980; since 1980, he has served his community by offering his
2leadership and expertise as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry
3and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Illinois College
4of Medicine; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto is currently a Board Member of the
6Illinois Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness
7(NAMI) and a Council Member of the Illinois Psychiatric
8Society; he also serves on the Central IL Coalition for Mental
9Health Recovery; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was named a Distinguished Fellow by the
11American Psychiatric Association, was awarded the University
12of Illinois Community Health Award, and received the Pathways
13Award for Advocacy in recognition for his extraordinary
14commitment to the behavioral health of the community; he
15received further recognition from NAMI with an Exemplary
16Psychiatrist Award and the Hero's in the Fight Award, which he
17received twice; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was instrumental in numerous community
19reforms, including the Peoria County Mental Health Court, the
20establishment of a psychiatric residency at the University of
21Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, and the development of
22a Crisis Center for decompensating and substance-afflicted
23individuals; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto impacted important state-wide mental
2health statutory reforms, including empowering families to
3initiate involuntary commitment of decompensating family
4members and legislation that enables college students to sign a
5confidentiality waiver allowing parents to be notified in the
6event of a mental health issue while at an institution of
7higher learning; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto was born in Mumbai, India on April 14,
91949; his parents, as well as three of his five siblings, are
10physicians; he married Mary Jo Lehnhausen in 1977 and became a
11United States citizen on September 24, 1982; he and his wife
12are active in St. Thomas Parish; they are the parents of Navin
13(Jennifer) Pinto, Kiran (Cory Morris) Pinto, and Anjali Pinto
14and the grandparents of Elly and Frances Pinto; he enjoys
15spending time with his family and friends and looks forward to
16spending his retirement cooking elaborate meals and traveling
17the globe; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Pinto is highly respected and deeply loved by
19his family and all who know him; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22congratulate Dr. Arun Pinto, and we wish him the best of luck

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Dr. Pinto as an expression of our esteem and
