HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Peter
4Lazare of Springfield, who passed away on November 7, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was born in Long Island, New York and
6raised in Stamford, Connecticut; he earned his Bachelor's
7Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison;
8he later received his master's degree from the University of
9Illinois-Springfield; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare spent more than a decade organizing
11labor unions in Chicago before he moved to Springfield in 1992;
12he was an expert analyst at the Illinois Commerce Commission
13for 20 years and was politically active until the time of his
14death, focusing on the urgency of addressing climate change;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was also the co-owner of the
17Grab-a-Java coffee shops with his wife, Meg; he and Meg filled
18a market gap in Springfield with their high-end, coffee-to-go
19concept; the shops also gave him a platform to share his
20artwork, which dabbled in the politics and cultural issues of
21the day, and is displayed prominently outside the two
22Grab-a-Java locations; in recent years; he held two art shows

1that were local cultural events and known for their uniqueness
2and hilarity; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare spoke French and enjoyed traveling to
4Paris with Meg as often as he could; in recent years, they
5traveled all over Europe; he enjoyed playing board games,
6reading, baking, and creating art projects with his
7granddaughter; he attended her soccer games, served as the
8coach of her Lego League team, and perfected his pancake recipe
9for her; he lived out his political convictions and will be
10remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit and his activist
11heart; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was preceded in death by his parents,
13Edythe and Leon Lazare; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Peter Lazare is survived by his wife of 37 years,
15Meg Evans Lazare; his children, Sarah (Adam Johnson) Lazare and
16Ben Lazare; his granddaughter, Kinley Lazare; the mother of his
17granddaughter, Anna Schneider; his brothers, Daniel Lazare and
18Jonathan Lazare; his 22 nieces and nephews; and his wife's
19seven sisters and brothers; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22mourn the passing of Peter Lazare and extend our sincere

1condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Peter Lazare as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
