HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Doug Oberhelman on the
4occasion of his retirement as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
5Caterpillar, Inc. after a 41-year career with Caterpillar
6effective December 31, 2016; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman served as Chairman of the Board of
8Directors and CEO of Caterpillar, Inc. from 2010 through 2016;
9he will continue to serve Caterpillar, Inc. as Executive
10Chairman of the Board through March 31, 2017; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman received his bachelor's degree in
12finance from Millikin University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During his tenure as Chairman and CEO, Doug
14Oberhelman led Caterpillar, Inc. through accelerated business
15cycles, implementing cost-efficiencies, and lean manufacturing
16to simplify and improve global manufacturing and operations;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman has led Caterpillar, Inc. to renew
19its focus on customers and reinforced its dedication to
20quality, sustainability, and innovations critical to the
21success of its employees, customers, and dealers; and

1    WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman joined the Caterpillar, Inc
2Treasury Department in 1975 and worked in or led a wide variety
3of businesses across the company; he was elected a
4Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer in 1995; from 2002
5to 2010, he was a Group President with responsibility for many
6of Caterpillar's core businesses; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Over the course of his career at Caterpillar, Inc.
8Doug Oberhelman lived in North America, South America, and
9Asia, and travelled extensively throughout the world; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman serves on the Board of Directors
11of Exxon Mobil Corporation and is immediate past Chairman of
12the Business Roundtable and former Chair of the National
13Association of Manufacturers; he is Vice-President of the
14Wetlands America Trust, a member of the Nature Conservancy's
15Latin America Conservation Council, and Chairman of the Board
16of Trustees for the Easter Seals Foundation of Central
17Illinois; he previously served on the boards of Eli Lilly and
18Company and Ameren Corporation; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21congratulate Doug Oberhelman on his retirement as Chief
22Executive Officer of Caterpillar, Inc. and we wish him the best

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Doug Oberhelman as an expression of our esteem and
4respect.
