HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Doug Oberhelman on the occasion of his retirement as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Caterpillar, Inc. after a 41-year career with Caterpillar effective December 31, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Caterpillar, Inc. from 2010 through 2016; he will continue to serve Caterpillar, Inc. as Executive Chairman of the Board through March 31, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman received his bachelor's degree in finance from Millikin University; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Chairman and CEO, Doug Oberhelman led Caterpillar, Inc. through accelerated business cycles, implementing cost-efficiencies, and lean manufacturing to simplify and improve global manufacturing and operations; and

WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman has led Caterpillar, Inc. to renew its focus on customers and reinforced its dedication to quality, sustainability, and innovations critical to the success of its employees, customers, and dealers; and

WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman joined the Caterpillar, Inc Treasury Department in 1975 and worked in or led a wide variety of businesses across the company; he was elected a Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer in 1995; from 2002 to 2010, he was a Group President with responsibility for many of Caterpillar's core businesses; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of his career at Caterpillar, Inc. Doug Oberhelman lived in North America, South America, and Asia, and travelled extensively throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman serves on the Board of Directors of Exxon Mobil Corporation and is immediate past Chairman of the Business Roundtable and former Chair of the National Association of Manufacturers; he is Vice-President of the Wetlands America Trust, a member of the Nature Conservancy's Latin America Conservation Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Easter Seals Foundation of Central Illinois; he previously served on the boards of Eli Lilly and Company and Ameren Corporation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Doug Oberhelman on his retirement as Chief Executive Officer of Caterpillar, Inc. and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Doug Oberhelman as an expression of our esteem and respect.
