HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Zeigler-Royalton Coaches vs. Cancer for their exceptional work in raising money to fight cancer; and

WHEREAS, Coaches vs. Cancer is a joint program between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches; goals for the Coaches vs. Cancer program include funding research and patient services, raising awareness of risk factors, highlighting the efforts of the schools that participate, and encouraging students to embark on a lifetime of service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, Zeigler-Royalton Coaches vs. Cancer was first organized during the 2009-10 school year; and

WHEREAS, In the eight years of participation by Zeigler-Royalton High School, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised over $110,000; it has led the State of Illinois in funds raised every year in which they have participated; in the most recent year, Zeigler-Royalton High School was seventh in the entire nation for funds raised, an amazing feat for such a small school; and

WHEREAS, The success of Zeigler-Royalton Coaches vs. Cancer has been recognized by the Southern Illinoisan, the Peoria Journal Star, and numerous other papers; WSIL-TV 3 has done several features, and WSIU and KFVS have also provided coverage; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Zeigler-Royalton Coaches vs. Cancer for their exceptional work in raising money to fight cancer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Zeigler-Royalton High School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
