HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the
4founding of John A. Logan College; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois created the Illinois Public
6Community College Act in 1967; a college district was
7established in the counties of Franklin, Jackson, Perry,
8Williamson, and Randolph; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harry L. Crisp II, Clifford Batteau, Melvin Brush,
10Roy Glenn, Rannie Odum, C.R. Walker, and James Walker were
11elected by the voters of that district to serve on the
12college's first board of trustees; Dr. Nathan Ivey was hired as
13the college's first president; Dr. William Anderson was hired
14as the college's first administrator and encouraged the board
15of trustees to name the college "John A. Logan College"; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John A. Logan College is now celebrating its 50th
17anniversary and its 35,000th graduate; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John A. Logan College has brought hope and
19direction to many students who have sought higher education; it
20has an impeccable reputation highlighted by many of the
21nation's best instructors; it has been a crown jewel of

1Southern Illinois and has contributed immensely to its economy;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, John A. Logan College continues to be a beacon of
4hope for many under the direction of its current President, Dr.
5Ron House, and Board of Trustees, Bill Kilquist, Mandy Little,
6Glenn Poshard, Ray Hancock, Jacob "Jake" Rendleman, Cheryl
7Graff, and Rebecca Borgsmiller; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John A. Logan College continues its 50-year effort
9to bring high-quality, affordable higher education to the
10people of its district; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13recognize the 50th anniversary of the founding of John A. Logan
14College, and we honor all of those who have served and worked
15to make John A. Logan College the important learning
16institution that it is today; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to John A. Logan College as a symbol of our respect
19and esteem.
