HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Albers-Damiansville girls basketball team, the Cougars, on winning the 2017-2018 Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Cougars defeated St. Mary's of Mt. Vernon by a score of 47 to 40 in the title game played at Rend Lake College; and

WHEREAS, The Cougars ended their season with a record of 27 wins and one loss; and

WHEREAS, The Cougars are Sophia Kennett, Julia Korte, MaKenna Lake, Abigail Crosby, Camryn Hall, Sophia Bretz, Tori Joest, Austyn Jansen, Avery Budde, Maddy Santel, Reagan Norrenbers, and Sophie Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Maddy Santel led the scoring with 20 points and was 11-for-12 from the foul line; Austyn Jansen had nine points, Avery Budde had eight points, Sophie Thomas had six points, and Julia Korte had four points; and

WHEREAS, Coaches Taylor Kampwerth and Nick Hollenkamp and Manager Kaitlyn Toennies helped orchestrate and plan a successful campaign; and

WHEREAS, The Cougars completed an excellent season, using teamwork, commitment, and hard work to overcome the many challenges the season presented and complete such an amazing accomplishment; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend and applaud the Albers-Damiansville girls basketball team, the Cougars, on winning the 2017-2018 Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S Championship and on their humility and respect for one another on and off the basketball court; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the coaches and members of the Cougars as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
