HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Schlarman Academy girls basketball team, the Hilltoppers, on winning the 2017-2018 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Hilltoppers defeated Stockton High School by a score of 53 to 31 on February 24, 2018 at Illinois State University Redbird Arena in Normal; and

WHEREAS, This is the first girls basketball state title for Schlarman Academy and the first for the school since 1981; Schlarman Academy is a faith-based, preschool through high school educational community that promotes spiritual, intellectual, physical, and moral development in a dynamic climate of academic excellence centered on Christian values and the Catholic tradition; it is located in Danville and has a student body of 99; and

WHEREAS, The Hilltoppers are Cece Damilano, Sydney Gouard, Capria Brown, Anaya Peoples, Tannah Ceader, Janiah Newell, Emma Bogan, Suzet Semersheim, McKaylee Allen, and Destiny Dye; and

WHEREAS, The Hilltoppers are coached by Head Coach Keith Peoples and assistant coaches Jerry O'Neill, David Gouard, Ollie Harrison, and LaTana Lillard; the managers are Ana Fitzgerald, Mollie DeBoard, and Elizabeth Stimac; the principal is Gail Lewis, the athletic director is Phil Sexton, and the dean is Mark Croy; and

WHEREAS, The Hilltopper cheerleaders are Jaida Green, Ainslee Johnson, Jayden King, Tamara Kriening, Sarah Lukas, Sara Switzer, Elijah Williams, Winne Zheng, and Jessalyn Gonzalez; they are coached by Alicia Moody; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Schlarman Academy girls basketball team, the Hilltoppers, on winning the 2017-2018 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Hilltoppers and their coaches as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
