HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1918, 29 dentists specializing in exodontia signed the founding charter of the American Society of Exodontists, the precursor of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, at the Auditorium Building in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Oral and maxillofacial surgeons practice in a variety of settings, including private clinical practice, ambulatory surgical centers and hospitals, and provide service in academia, the military and in dental research and industry; and

WHEREAS, Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical arm of dentistry and is defined by the American Dental Association as the specialty which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons seeks to assure excellence in patient care by advancing, promoting and preserving the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and the skill and professionalism of its members; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons represents more than 9,000 members across the nation; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons is headquartered in Rosemont; and

WHEREAS, The 100th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions and Exhibition of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons will be held October 8-13, 2018 at McCormick Place in Chicago, under the theme of "Safety and Innovation for the Next Century"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons on its l00th anniversary and on its continued dedication to patient care; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
