SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leo Richard Green M.D. of Godfrey, who
4passed away on March 31, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Green was born to Ephraim and Elizabeth Green
6(Stolze) on May 29, 1928; he graduated from Alton High School
7in 1946, where he was the class president and the University of
8Illinois in 1949; he married Eulalia "Laila" on June 30, 1951
9and graduated from the University of Illinois College of
10Medicine in 1953; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After completing medical school, Dr. Green served
12in the United States Navy following the Korean War from 1953 to
131956 as a ship's doctor on the USNS General H.B. Freeman; he
14was stationed in Oakland, California and Seattle, Washington;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Green began a successful family medical
17practice in 1956 and retired in 1995; he loved serving his
18patients and families and all those he worked with at St.
19Joseph's, St. Anthony's, and Alton Memorial Hospitals; he
20continued working for Alton Memorial Hospital in an
21administrative role as Vice-President of Medical Affairs until
22his retirement in 2004; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Green was preceded in death by his parents;
2his brothers, Charles and Ephraim J.; and his sister, Helen
3Green Smith; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Green is survived by his wife of 65 years,
5Eulalia; his children, Christopher Green M.D., Cathleen
6(Steven) Lux, Lisa (Robert) Schlemmer, Mary (David) Deming,
7Richard (Khin) Green, and Jennifer (Karl) Ritter; Jacqueline
8Green; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Leo Richard Green M.D., and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dr. Green as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
