SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ronald "Ron" L. Selph of Granite City,
4who passed away on April 10, 2017; and
5
6    WHEREAS, Ronald Selph was born in Granite City to Roby and
7Lucille (Gordon) Selph on July 13, 1946; he graduated from
8Granite City High School in 1964 and from McKendree College in
91978; he joined the United States Coast Guard after high school
10and after serving his country he married Karen W. Whittaker;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ronald Selph had a 20-year successful career as a
13police officer; he then served two years with the United States
14Marshal Service and taught criminal justice classes at
15Belleville Area College for 17 years; he was elected Mayor of
16Granite City In 1993; he considered his time as Mayor to be his
17greatest accomplishment and was honored to serve in that
18position for the next 12 years until his retirement; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ronald Selph enjoyed serving his community in any
20capacity and said it was "the people" he enjoyed the most; he
21loved to fish, golf, and spend time with his family, it was his
22favorite pastime after retirement; and

1    WHEREAS, Ronald Selph was preceded in death by his parents
2and his wife, Karen W. Whittaker; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ronald Selph is survived by his children, Terri L.
4(Tito) Selph-Tamez, Ronald W. (Lea Anne) Selph; his five
5grandchildren, Karen Robbins, Austin Weaver, Tanner Selph,
6Shaelyn Selph, and Presley Selph; his great-grandchild, Rylee
7L. Hubbard; his eight siblings, Judie Cor, Kathy (Jim) Robins,
8Debbie (Ron) Reeves, Jackie Ortiz, Sally Strong, Danny (Laurie)
9Selph, John (Tammy) Selph, and Craig (Barbara) Selph; his
10twenty-three nieces and nephews, and many other extended family
11and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Ronald "Ron" L. Selph, and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ronald Selph as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
