SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
15 ILCS 5/1  from Ch. 127, par. 63b122

    Amends the Governor Succession Act. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the line of succession for the office of Governor.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Governor Succession Act is amended by
5changing Section 1 as follows:
 
6    (15 ILCS 5/1)  (from Ch. 127, par. 63b122)
7    Sec. 1. (a) In the the event that the Governor, for any of
8the reasons specified in Article V, Section 6 of the
9Constitution of the State of Illinois, is not able to exercise
10the powers and discharge the duties of his office, such powers
11and duties of the office shall be exercised by the officer next
12in line of succession, in the order named as follows:
13    (1)  The Lieutenant Governor;
14    (2)  The elected Attorney General;
15    (3)  The elected Secretary of State;
16    (4)  The elected Comptroller;
17    (5)  The elected Treasurer;
18    (6)  The President of the Senate;
19    (7)  The Speaker of the House of Representatives.
20    (b) The officer next in line of succession shall serve as
21Governor for the remainder of the term if he succeeds to the
22office by reason of death, conviction on impeachment or
23resignation of the Governor. If he succeeds to the office by

1reason of temporary disability or failure to qualify by the
2Governor, he shall serve until the Governor qualifies or the
3disability is removed. An officer who succeeds to the office
4of Governor by reason of temporary disability of the Governor
5shall be designated Acting Governor.
6    (c) If an officer next in line of succession shall fail to
7qualify or if his office is vacant, then the officer next in
8line of succession after him who is qualified shall serve as
9Governor.
