| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Robert John "Bob" Gushanas of Colona, | 4 | | who passed away on July 1, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas, the son of Eli and Alice Pederson | 6 | | Gushanas, was born in Rock Island on January 22, 1946; he | 7 | | graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964; he served in | 8 | | the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was | 9 | | stationed at the demilitarized zone in Korea from 1965 to | 10 | | 1967; he was honorably discharged in 1968; he married Diane | 11 | | Steffen in Cambridge on September 26, 1970; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas worked at John Deere Harvester Works | 13 | | for 43 years, retiring in 2005; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas was a member the Korean War Vets, | 15 | | having served as state president of Illinois; he was a past | 16 | | commander of the Colona American Legion, where he was a member | 17 | | of the Honor Guard Team; he also belonged to the Bi-County | 18 | | Memorial Association of the Rock Island Arsenal; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, | 20 | | playing chess, and collecting coins; he was a proud blood | 21 | | donor who donated over 10 gallons of blood; his greatest joy |

| 1 | | was spending time with his grandchildren; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas is survived by his wife of 53 years, | 5 | | Diane; his sons, Erik Gushanas and Cory (Amy) Gushanas; five | 6 | | grandchildren; one step-grandson; and his siblings, Daniel | 7 | | (Judy) Gushanas and Ann Edwards; therefore, be it | 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Robert John "Bob" Gushanas and extend our sincere condolences | 11 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 12 | | it further | 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Bob Gushanas as an expression of our | 15 | | deepest sympathy. |
