| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of James Vogel "Jim" DeVries of Silvis, | 4 | | who passed away on June 19, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries, the son of Andrew and Janna Vogel | 6 | | DeVries, was born in Morrison on November 6, 1943; he served in | 7 | | the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries spent his career as a truck driver, | 9 | | retiring from Standard Forwarding; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries volunteered for several organizations | 11 | | over the years, including the Bix 7 and the Patriot Guard; he | 12 | | also coached softball teams for many years; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes | 14 | | and the Chicago Bears; known for being fun-loving and social, | 15 | | he enjoyed drinking coffee and conversing at Porky's in the | 16 | | mornings; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries was preceded in death by his parents; | 18 | | his sister, Mary Heffernan; and his brother-in-law, Roger | 19 | | Haan; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jim DeVries is survived by his fiance, Linda De | 2 | | La Cruz; his daughters, Sherrie (Kenny McGinnis) Newman, Cindy | 3 | | (Eddie) Volquardsen, and Jeni (Chad) Wagner; five | 4 | | grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jane | 5 | | Haan, Sue Bond, Nan Martina, and Martha (Jon) Kophamer; and | 6 | | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it | 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | James Vogel "Jim" DeVries and extend our sincere condolences | 10 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 11 | | it further | 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Jim DeVries as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy. |
