| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of John Frederick Troelstrup of Oak Park, | 4 | | who passed away on September 20, 2023 at the age of 84; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup was born in Columbia, Missouri; | 6 | | he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the | 7 | | University of Missouri in 1962; he then joined the U.S. Air | 8 | | Force, where he was a part of the Strategic Air Command and | 9 | | later served as a reserve until 1969; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup earned his Juris Doctor from West | 11 | | Virginia University College of Law in 1969; he later moved to | 12 | | Chicago in 1977 and then to Oak Park in 1979, where he pursued | 13 | | a standout law career and remarkable volunteerism; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup practiced law for over 40 years | 15 | | before retiring from his private practice, the Troelstrup Law | 16 | | Office, in Oak Park in the late 2010s; his legal colleagues | 17 | | recognized him as a fine person and true friend, and will | 18 | | greatly miss his wisdom, guidance, and wonderful sense of | 19 | | humor; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup's volunteering led him to serve | 21 | | in multiple organizations, including the Community and |

| 1 | | Economic Development Association of Cook County Inc., the | 2 | | Fillmore Center for Human Services, CEDA Near West, the | 3 | | Children's Museum of Oak Park-River Forest, Pillars Community | 4 | | Services, the Oak Park Area Arts Council, the Oak Park-River | 5 | | Forest Gang and Drug Task Force, and the Citizen Involvement | 6 | | Committee as chair; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup was a longtime friend and | 8 | | volunteer of the Democratic Party of Oak Park; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup's commitment to public service | 10 | | included serving as an elected trustee of the Village of Oak | 11 | | Park from 1993 to 1997, where he was instrumental in the | 12 | | passage of the State's first domestic partnership registry in | 13 | | Oak Park in 1997; he was honored for his many successes with an | 14 | | Outstanding Alumni Award by the Columbia Public Schools | 15 | | Foundation in 2010; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup was also an accomplished father, | 17 | | taking care of his many children while maintaining his robust | 18 | | professional life, doing both with flair, love, and joy; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup gifted his children with a | 20 | | lifetime of memories, pastimes, irreverent turns of phrase, | 21 | | inappropriate jokes at inopportune times, and a relentless and | 22 | | all-encompassing love and compassion; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup always had a way with quirky and | 2 | | lesser-known words, challenging his children to pronounce or | 3 | | spell the words at the dinner table; his children also | 4 | | remember his famous "up-downs," reciting the name of each | 5 | | president on each coin before they could claim their weekly | 6 | | allowance, and his love for Mackinac Island, Michigan and | 7 | | their daily family walks around the island; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup was an incredible example of a | 9 | | good community member; he picked up trash on his daily | 10 | | miles-long walks around town, taking care of himself and the | 11 | | Earth, opting to travel by foot over car whenever possible; he | 12 | | also enjoyed supporting local businesses and could talk for | 13 | | hours on any subject, and he often enjoyed doing so at one of | 14 | | his favorite spots, George's Restaurant on Oak Park Avenue; | 15 | | and | 16 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup was preceded in death by his | 17 | | parents, Ann and Arch Troelstrup; his siblings, William | 18 | | Stumper, Glenn Stumper, and Susan L. Stumper; and his son, | 19 | | John F. Troelstrup Jr.; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, John Troelstrup is survived by his children, Tate | 21 | | (Katie) Troelstrup, Paige (Geoffrey) Dunmore, Holms (Conan | 22 | | Calhoun) Troelstrup, Roo Troelstrup, Sam Troelstrup, Toper |

| 1 | | (Danielle) Troelstrup, Tilly Troelstrup, and Gunny (Hayley | 2 | | Kassel) Troelstrup; his former spouse, Sandy Lowry; and 11 | 3 | | grandchildren; therefore, be it | 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 6 | | John Frederick Troelstrup and extend our sincere condolences | 7 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 8 | | it further | 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of John Troelstrup as an expression of | 11 | | our deepest sympathy. |
