SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dr. Jose "Joe" Austriaco of Park
4Ridge, formerly of Lombard and Oak Brook, who passed away on
5January 29, 2025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco, the son of Cesar and Lucia
7Dumaguit Austriaco, was born in Manila, Philippines on
8December 8, 1934; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco immigrated to the United States at
10the age of 34 in April 1969; while studying for his Educational
11Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) exam, he
12worked as an x-ray technician to earn a living, in preparation
13for his wife, Lina, and their children to arrive in November;
14upon passing the exam, he began practicing medicine in 1973,
15and having saved enough money, he and Lina moved their family
16to Oak Brook; he continued practicing family medicine in
17Maywood and Chicago until 2000, and he served as staff at St.
18Anthony Hospital; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco was very involved in many Filipino
20organizations, including the Philippines Medical Association
21of Chicago (PMAC), the Philippines National Basketball
22Association of America (PNBAA), and the Chicago Philippines

1Lions Club; he was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing
2tennis, bowling, and playing basketball; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Austriaco was the husband and partner of the
4late Carolina "Lina" Austriaco; the father of Jerome (Aurora)
5Austriaco, Jocelyn (Philip) Mesina, and Jonathan (Sherry)
6Austriaco; and the grandfather of Danielle, Isabelle,
7Elisabeth, Anastacia (Dylan) Duncan, Joshua, Jessica, and
8Jonathan; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Dr. Jose "Joe" Austriaco and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dr. Austriaco as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
