SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk, who passed
4away on January 25, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was born to John Lewis Dean and Faye
6Jenny Winslow Dean in Akron, Ohio on March 21, 1939; she
7received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from
8Northwestern University in 1961; she married Donald Hay Funk,
9and they eventually moved to Springfield; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a devoted housewife and mother of
11two who opened her own art business, specializing in
12needlepoint, embroidery, fabric dyeing, and various other
13artistic techniques; she traveled to showcase her work,
14passionately sharing her techniques and insights with others,
15always eager to inspire those who wanted to learn; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a member of the Westminster
17Presbyterian Church; she was also a member of the Junior
18League, the Anti-Rust Club, Questers, the Abraham Lincoln
19Association, and the Embroiders Guild of America; she was a
20longstanding member of the Springfield Art Association, where
21she dedicated her time to volunteering due to being driven by
22her passion for artwork and her desire to inspire others; and

1    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk considered being a grandmother her
2greatest accomplishment, and she was affectionately known as
3"Nana"; she always made it a priority to be there for her
4family; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk had many passion projects and hobbies
6that she taught and passed down to her grandchildren,
7including art and genealogy; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was preceded in death by her parents;
9her husband of 61 years, Donald; and her brother, John
10Franklin Dean; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Deanna Funk is survived by her children, Anne
12Funk and Donald (Layna) Funk; two granddaughters; her niece
13and nephew, Michelle (Michael Borenstein) and John Dean; her
14sister-in-law, Jeanne Dean; and many grandnieces and
15grandnephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk and extend our sincere condolences to
19her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Deanna Funk as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
