HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives would like to congratulate Glenda Fulton for
4being honored by Mothers Informing Mothers International at
5their event, the Perfectly PINK Rose Garden Party, with the
6theme of "Strong is the New Beautiful" on May 19, 2012; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton will be honored for her work with
8the National Sarcoidosis Friends; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a disease involving inflammation
10that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs in the
11body; the lumps are called granulomas, which are very small and
12can be seen only with a microscope; the tiny granulomas can
13grow and clump together, making many large and small lumps,
14potentially affecting organ function; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in
161975; since her diagnosis, she has helped focus national
17attention on this disease through her public and pro-active
18stance toward educating others and through her public advocacy;
19she has been on the cutting edge of research and efforts to
20promote education and awareness about sarcoidosis; she has
21spoken on numerous occasions and presented information on many
22topics relevant to services and educational awareness about the

1disease; she has been a speaker, presenter, and panelist at
2numerous sarcoidosis conferences throughout the State and has
3been involved in efforts to develop sarcoidosis support groups;
4she has written grants to secure financial support for
5sarcoidosis research and awareness issues and assisted with
6other fundraising activities, including setting up the JSRC's
7first Walk-A-Thon in Houston, Texas, grant initiatives, and
8live radio shows; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1995, she founded the National Sarcoidosis
10Society, Inc., an organization that has been very successful in
11bringing educational awareness, services, advocacy, support,
12and research initiatives to health care providers, the public
13at large, elected officials, and to its many networking
14partners, such as the African American Family Research
15Institute and the Minority Women Association; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was born on September 24, 1950; she
17received her education through the Chicago public schools; she
18attended Drake Grammar School and Oakenwald Upper Grade School,
19then went on to Forrestville High School and Northern Illinois
20University; she has acquired expertise and experience in the
21areas of Certified Nursing Technician, Medical Technician,
22Mentor, Health Caretaker for HIV and cocaine addicted babies,
23Rehabilitation Nursing, and Hospice; she was the Head Volunteer
24for the Chicago Board of Education and the P.T.A. Advisory

1Committee for Grammar, Elementary, and High Schools, as well as
2the John Hope Community Academy and Martin Luther King High
3School; she was a volunteer for the Northside Chicago Boys and
4Girls Club of America; she is a surrogate parent for the
5Department of Children and Family Services and the Board of
6Education; she has served on several boards and committees on
7the national, regional, State, and local levels; she is the
8Chairperson for the Regional Organ Bank of Illinois (now known
9as the Gift of Hope); she has been a volunteer for the
10AmeriCorp Vista Illinois Institute of Technology, The National
11Institute of Health, the National Heart Lung and Blood
12Institute, and the Public Interest Organization; she is a
13member of the Chicago Center of Excellence in Health Promotion
14Economics; she developed a task force with the Chicago
15Department of Public Health and Commissioner Terry Mason; she
16has acquired many accolades, trophies, certificates, plaques,
17citations, awards, and personal letters of commendation from
18First Proclamation on Sarcoidosis in Detroit, Michigan, the
19National Sarcoidosis Society Bernie Mac and Nike Shoe Giveaway
20in 2002, the 4Women.gov Women Day Conference 2006, and the
21Martin Luther King Youth Program in January 2007; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton is married to Charles E. Skillom;
23she is the mother of 3 daughters, Sheree Fulton-Jackson,
24Gernard Fulton, and Shetanys Fulton; she is the grandmother of
25Darrius Fulton, Nada Johnson, Chanel Jackson, Sydney Jackson;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we honor Glenda Fulton for her fight against sarcoidosis, for
5receiving accolades from Mothers Informing Mothers
6International and wish her continued health and happiness in
7the future; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Glenda Fulton as a symbol of our esteem and
10respect.
