HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate LyondellBasell's petrochemical plant in Morris on being named the Industrial Plant of the Year by the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators; and

WHEREAS, The site had previously been named a finalist in the industry category for the "Best Operated Wastewater Treatment Works" award as a result of a nomination by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; and

WHEREAS, The Morris Complex is one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the Midwest; using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world's most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene resins; and

WHEREAS, The resins provide value to society by serving as building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatterproof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects food from spoilage and contamination, and children's toys that are safe and durable; and

WHEREAS, LyondellBasell is one of the world's largest plastics, chemical, and refining companies; the company manufactures products at 58 sites in 18 countries; LyondellBasell products and technologies are used to make items that improve the quality of life for people around the world including packaging, electronics, automotive parts, home furnishings, construction materials, and biofuels; and

WHEREAS, The purpose of the annual awards for the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators is to emphasize the relationship between adequate wastewater treatment and clean receiving waters and to give public recognition and encouragement to the industries and their personnel, who have operated their wastewater facilities in an especially effective manner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the staff and leadership at LyondellBasell's petrochemical plant in Morris on receiving this award and wish them the best for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of LyondellBasell's Morris Complex as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
