HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Senior Airman Bradley R. Smith of Troy, who passed away on January 3, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was born on September 11, 1985, to Gary and Paula Smith of Troy; he was married to Tiffany Smith; he was father to Chloe, and brother to Ryan; and

WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was stationed with the 10th Air Support Operations Squadron out of Fort Riley, Kansas; he was killed while on patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan; while under fire, he and another soldier, were attempting to reach those that had been injured; it was during this heroic act that he lost his life; and

WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was posthumously awarded the Silver Star on September 8, 2012, by Major General Lawrence Wells, Commander 9th Air Force; the Silver Star is the 3rd highest military combat decoration, awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith's selfless actions in the line of duty has brought great credit upon himself, his family, and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith is survived by his wife, Tiffany; his daughter, Chloe Smith; his parents, Gary and Paula Smith; and his brother, Ryan Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Senior Airman Smith, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Senior Airman Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
