HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4Senior Airman Bradley R. Smith of Troy, who passed away on
5January 3, 2010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was born on September 11,
71985, to Gary and Paula Smith of Troy; he was married to
8Tiffany Smith; he was father to Chloe, and brother to Ryan; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was stationed with the 10th
10Air Support Operations Squadron out of Fort Riley, Kansas; he
11was killed while on patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan;
12while under fire, he and another soldier, were attempting to
13reach those that had been injured; it was during this heroic
14act that he lost his life; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith was posthumously awarded the
16Silver Star on September 8, 2012, by Major General Lawrence
17Wells, Commander 9th Air Force; the Silver Star is the 3rd
18highest military combat decoration, awarded for gallantry in
19action against an enemy of the United States; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith's selfless actions in the line
21of duty has brought great credit upon himself, his family, and

1the State of Illinois; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Senior Airman Smith is survived by his wife,
3Tiffany; his daughter, Chloe Smith; his parents, Gary and Paula
4Smith; and his brother, Ryan Smith; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we mourn the passing of Senior Airman Smith, and we extend our
8sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
9and loved him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Senior Airman Smith as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
