HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The House Republican Representatives played the House Republican Staff in basketball on April 6, 2011; and

WHEREAS, The House Republican Staff, led by Chief of Staff Matt O'Shea and Deputy Chief of Staff Scott Reimers, defeated the House Republican Representatives by a combined score of 51-13; and

WHEREAS, Matt O'Shea, Scott Reimers, Sara Wojcicki, David Dring, Michael Mahoney, Robert Stefanski, Jason Rudis, John Slocum, JB Myers, Kevin Daley, Jeremy Fox, Coach David Luechtenfeld, and team statistician Donovan Griffith won the first ever Staff vs. Representatives basketball game, which was commonly referred to as the Studs vs. the Duds; and

WHEREAS, The House Republican Representatives were forced to ask the House Republican Staff to play 4 players to their 5 to "make it fair"; and

WHEREAS, The House Republican Representatives were led by Representative Pam Roth, scoring 4 of the House Republican Representatives' 13 points, thus completely outplaying seatmate Representative Jim Watson; and

WHEREAS, Prior to the game, Michael Mahoney of the House Republican Staff was mocked by fellow staff members for possessing minimal basketball experience and being excessively awkward; he averaged over 8 points per game; and

WHEREAS, The House Republican Staff was led in scoring by Matt Paprocki, Michael Mahoney, Jason Rudis, and John Slocum, who all scored 8 points; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly, while playing 5 on 4 basketball, celebrated more than UConn's National Basketball Team after hitting an insignificant 3-point shot; and

WHEREAS, The House Republican Representatives created a new basketball statistic and similarly set a new state record of 8 CPG (collapses per game); and

WHEREAS, Both Representative Sullivan and Former House Republican Staffer David Dring battled the entire game for the 'shortest shorts award'; and

WHEREAS, Coach John Cavaletto of Mater Dei High School was outsmarted and outcoached by Coach David Luechtenfeld of Okawville High School with the stifling 1-2-1 zone defense and an emotional halftime speech; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and applaud the House Republican Staff Basketball team for their accomplishments during the April 6, 2011 game, for their talent and teamwork displayed on the court, for their excellence and humility off the court, for the outstanding coaching staff leading the team, and for the brilliant sportsmanship demonstrated throughout and after the game; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the House Republican Staff Basketball team as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
