HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Illinois State University head coach Stephanie Glance was recently named the 2011 recipient of the Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award; this award honors a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division I head coach who has led the team to a successful season during their first year as a coach; and

WHEREAS, She was named the sixth head women's basketball coach in Illinois State history on April 20, 2010; in her first season, the Illinois State Redbirds have reached the semifinals of the Women's National Invitation Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Her 24 wins this season are the fifth-most in school history and are tied for the most by a first-year Missouri Valley Conference coach; she is the only coach to work with Hall of Fame women's basketball mentors Pat Summitt and the late Kay Yow; and

WHEREAS, As an assistant coach, she helped guide her teams to 12 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 five times and the 1998 NCAA Women's Final Four; and

WHEREAS, She started her coaching career as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at South Florida from 1988 to 1993 and served as an assistant coach at Southwest Texas State during the 1993-94 season; and

WHEREAS, She played college basketball at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and education in 1985; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Coach Stephanie Glance on receiving the Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Stephanie Glance as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
