HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Marie Stiefel on the occasion of her retirement as Regional Office of Education (ROE) 8 superintendent after many years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Marie Stiefel has worked in the Regional Office of Education for 23 years; she began her career as a truancy officer in 1988, which gave her the opportunity to work with many at-risk students and their families; she subsequently served as a youth services administrator and assistant regional superintendent before becoming regional superintendent in 2005; and

WHEREAS, During her years as an ROE superintendent, Marie Stiefel oversaw 14 school districts and served on a Workforce Development Committee to promote the Certificate of Employability with area schools and employers; during her tenure, the ROE has added several grant programs, such as the New Teacher Induction and Mentoring Grant, as well as the Workforce Investment Act Youth Program, which links high school dropouts with GED classes, job skills training, and subsidized employment; and

WHEREAS, During her retirement, Marie Stiefel plans to continue working part-time in the area of education or social services; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marie Stiefel on the occasion of her retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Marie Stiefel as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
