HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate York Amateur Radio Club President Chuck Hopper and the members of the York Amateur Radio Club in Elmhurst on the 75th anniversary of the organization; and

WHEREAS, The Club celebrated its 75th anniversary on October 21, 2011; its history dates back to 1936; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Hopper was hooked when he saw his middle school teacher's amateur radio station in Jacksonville; and

WHEREAS, He later learned how to operate radios, how they worked, how to use Morse code, and the Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations; and

WHEREAS, The club members are part of the local community, and the City of Elmhurst often turns to them in times of bad weather and other emergencies; and

WHEREAS, The club recently helped out with the Chicago Marathon, allowing the marathon to use the club's repeater to boost the radio signals of the volunteers coordinating medical help and other course needs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the York Amateur Radio Club on this occasion and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chuck Hopper and the members of the York Amateur Radio Club as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
