SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Assaf "Tony" Trad Sr. of East Peoria, who passed away on July 30, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born February 17, 1921, in Itoo, Lebanon, to Antonios Khair Trad and Martha Slyman; he married Dalal Younes on February 10, 1941, in Itoo; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Itoo Society of Peoria; he was a member of St. Sharbel Maronite Church in Peoria and an avid supporter and volunteer at the St. Sharbel Church and Food Festivals; his passion was farming his land in Lebanon, and he was a co-owner of a furniture store in Venezuela, South America, before he moved to the United States in 1979; and

WHEREAS, He was the co-founder of Aleece's Pita Chips, and worked at Anthony's Tavern and Fon Du Lac Park District; while living in the United States, he went to each of his children's homes to plant gardens; he used his hands and skills to teach his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, the art of gardening; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Wardiah Younes and Jamela Trad; his daughter, Marie Trad; his grandchildren, Cedra and Anthony Trad; and his sons-in-law, Charles Anthony and Yousef Younes; and

WHEREAS, Assaf "Tony" Trad Sr. is survived by his sons and daughters, Alice (the late Charles Anthony), Tony (Loba) Trad, Leila (Abdullah Haifa), Pierre (Catherine) Trad, and Siham (the late Yousef Younes); his 14 grandchildren; and his 21 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Assaf "Tony" Trad Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Assaf "Tony" Trad Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
