SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Darrell Madison of Edwardsville, who passed away on December 6, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Richard Madison was born on August 10, 1937, in Pleasant Hill; he was the son of the late William and Cordelia (Zumwalt) Madison; he married Carol Ann Layton on November 21, 1956; and

WHEREAS, Richard Madison was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville; he subsequently moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he worked as the Program Director at Louisiana State University from 1964 to 1966; and

WHEREAS, Richard Madison served as director of the student center at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, where he worked from 1966 until 1992; he was the director of student housing at the university at the time of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Richard Madison served as an Edwardsville City Alderman for 14 years; he served on the Board of the Edwardsville Public Library, where he was heavily involved in the construction of the library's new addition; he was also a member of the ESIC Baptist Church and the Edwardsville Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, Richard Madison is survived by his wife; his son, Richard D. (Nina) Madison II; his daughters, Marilyn L. (Chris) Collins and Nicole B. Madison; his grandchildren, Richard Paul (Marci) Madison, Christina Nicole (Brett) Sheroky, and Christopher and Adam Collins; and his great-grandchildren, Richard Tanner Madison and Colton Ryan Madison; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Richard Darrell Madison; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Madison as an expression of our sympathy.
