SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Katie Singletary, who passed away on
4April 22, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was born on April 17, 1929, in
6Roundpond, Arkansas; her parents were Earnest and Louise
7Burton; she married Harrison Singletary in 1952; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary attended Woodbine School in
9Shelby, Mississippi where she played her favorite sport,
10baseball; and
 
11    WHEREAS, While living in Mississippi, Katie Singletary
12attended Hopewell Church; after relocating to Chicago, she
13joined the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the
14leadership of W.L. Upshire and later Bishop Henry Holloway; she
15also enjoyed attending the Greater Rock Church under the
16leadership of Pastor Floyd James and the Hope Community Church
17under the leadership of Pastor Steve Epting; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary enjoyed bowling with the
19Saturday Night Good Times Bowling League; she was also a long
20time member of the Beautifying Club and she loved studying and
21hearing the word of God; and

1    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary will be fondly remembered by her
2family and friends for her infectious smile and her
3affectionate nature; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was preceded in death by her
5parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary is survived by her sons, James
7(Faye), Earnest (Karen), and Otto (Camille); her
8grandchildren, Latonia Brown (Denoris), Anthony, Denise
9Foster, DeVontae Blanks, James Jr., Candace, Christopher, and
10Savannah; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, James
11Wright (Elizabeth), Mary Carr (James), and Martha Smiley
12(Eddie); her uncle, AC Childress (Tammy); her many loving
13nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her spiritual mother,
14Ms. Bessie McCloud; and the extended family that she cared for
15after her retirement, Robin, Nina, Sullivan, Bailey, Emily,
16Jack, Isabella, and Cecilia; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19her family and friends, the passing of Katie Singletary; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
