SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph "Jack" Udelhofen Jr., who passed
4away on April 3, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born April 4, 1924 and grew up in Rodgers
6Park on the North side of Chicago; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He was a veteran of World War II; he married his
8wife, Alice, in February 1945 in Brisbane, Australia during the
9war; he left 2 weeks later on a ship in the Pacific; the next
10time they saw each other was in July of 1946 after the war had
11ended; Alice left Australia alone and showed up at his door;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was an avid bowler and softball player back in
14the day; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He was one of the first patients to receive an
16artificial hip in the early 70s at St Francis Hospital; he is
17remembered for saying, "I had a great life and I want to go
18down swinging"; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Joseph "Jack" Udelhofen Jr. was the beloved
20husband of the late Alice (nee Sheppard); the loving father of

1Robert, Joanne (Hank) Helzer, James, Russell, John (Deborah),
2and Patrick (Mary); the dearest grandfather of 18; and the
3great-grandpa of 13; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Joseph "Jack" Udelhofen
7Jr.; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Joseph "Jack" Udelhofen Jr. as a
10symbol of our sincere sympathy.
