SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of DeWayne Clinton Bartels of Peoria, who passed away on July 27, 2012; and

WHEREAS, DeWayne Bartels was born on September 26, 1958, in Pekin, to Clifford Clinton and Virginia Mae (Rains) Bartels; he married Melody Ann Switzer on May 24, 1980; and

WHEREAS, DeWayne Bartels was an editor, writer, and reporter, for the East Peoria Times-Courier; he also worked for the Peoria Times-Observer, Pekin Daily Times, Tazwell Publishing, the Woodford County Times, and Kewanee Cost-Cutter; he worked for Morton Buildings for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, DeWayne Bartels was a member of the Illinois Press Association, the Peoria Astronomical Society, and was an ambassador for the NASA Solar System Ambassadors Program; he received numerous awards over the years for his writing and enjoyed hiking, astronomy, and time with his family; and

WHEREAS, DeWayne Bartels was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Virginia Mae Clinton; and

WHEREAS, DeWayne Bartels is survived by his wife, Melody Ann; his sons, Wesley, Bailey, Dylan, and Dustin (Nicole); his daughter, Brandy; his brother, Steven (Barbara); and 14 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of DeWayne Bartels, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
