 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1574

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill 1574 on page 2,  by
 3    replacing lines 16 through 34 with the following:
 4        "(d)  Upon   an   Interstate   highway  or  fully  access
 5    controlled freeway, a vehicle may not be driven in  the  left
 6    lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle.
 7        (e)  Subsection (d) of this Section does not apply:
 8             (1)  when  no  other  vehicle is directly behind the
 9        vehicle in the left lane;
10             (2)  when traffic conditions and congestion make  it
11        impractical to drive in the right lane;
12             (3)  when   snow   and   other   inclement   weather
13        conditions make it necessary to drive in the left lane;
14             (4)  when obstructions or hazards exist in the right
15        lane;
16             (5)  when  a  vehicle  changes  lanes to comply with
17        Sections 11-907 and 11-908 of this Code;
18             (6)  when, because of highway design, a vehicle must
19        be driven in the left lane when preparing to exit;
20             (7)  on toll highways when necessary to use  I-Pass,
21        and  on  toll and other highways when driving in the left
22        lane is required  to  comply  with  an  official  traffic
23        control device; or
24             (8)  to  law  enforcement  vehicles, ambulances, and

 1        other emergency vehicles engaged in official  duties  and
 2        vehicles  engaged in highway maintenance and construction
 3        operations."; and
