 1        AN ACT relating to fictitious higher education degrees.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 1. Short title. This Act  may  be  cited  as  the
 5    Fictitious Higher Education Degree Act.

 6        Section 5. Fictitious degree. If a resident of this State
 7    applies  for  a  higher education degree through the Internet
 8    and the institution offering the degree has not been approved
 9    by the Board of Higher Education as an institution  that  may
10    award  a  higher  education degree through the Internet, then
11    the degree must contain a statement that the institution  has
12    not  been  approved  by  the  Board of Higher Education as an
13    institution that may award a higher education degree.

14        Section  10.  Investigation.  If  the  Board  of   Higher
15    Education  becomes  aware that an institution is in violation
16    of Section 5 of this  Act,  then  the  Board  may  refer  the
17    incident  to  the  appropriate  law enforcement officials for
18    investigation into the violation of any criminal laws.

19        Section 90. Rules. The  Board  of  Higher  Education  may
20    adopt any rules necessary to implement this Act.

21        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
22    becoming law.
