 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2522

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill 2522  by  replacing
 3    the title with the following:
 4        "AN ACT relating to distance education."; and

 5    by  replacing  everything  after the enacting clause with the
 6    following:

 7        "Section 5.  The Board of Higher Education Act is amended
 8    by adding Section 9.30 as follows:

 9        (110 ILCS 205/9.30 new)
10        Sec. 9.30.  Consumer information system. The Board  shall
11    establish  and  maintain  an  Internet-based system to assist
12    students, families, and others seeking information concerning
13    the legitimacy of degree programs and  degree-credit  courses
14    that are offered over the Internet. This system shall provide
15    consumers   with  information  concerning  institutional  and
16    program accreditation and other information  that  will  help
17    consumers to identify fraudulent or misleading claims made by
18    institutions that solicit enrollment from Illinois consumers,
19    whether  or  not these institutions operate in this State and
20    are subject to the regulatory authority  of  the  Board.  The
21    Board  may  adopt  any  rules  necessary  to  implement  this

 2        Section  99.  Effective  date. This Act takes effect upon
 3    becoming law.".
