HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, 600,000 people visit Lincoln's New Salem State
3 historic site each year; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Most people visiting Abraham Lincoln historic
5 sites travel by car; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The portion of Illinois Route 123 extending from
7 Williamsville (Route 55) to New Salem, the portion of Route 97
8 extending from Springfield (Route 55) to New Salem, and the
9 portion of the Athens Blacktop extending from Athens (Route 29)
10 to New Salem afford access to the important Abraham Lincoln
11 historic site at New Salem; therefore be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
14 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Illinois Route
15 123 extending from Williamsville to New Salem, the portion of
16 Route 97 extending from Springfield to New Salem, and the
17 portion of the Athens Blacktop extending from Athens to New
18 Salem be collectively designated the Abraham Lincoln Highway;
19 and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That the portion of Illinois Route 123 extending
21 from Williamsville to New Salem, the portion of Route 97
22 extending from Springfield to New Salem, and the portion of the
23 Athens Blacktop extending from Athens to New Salem be
24 designated the Northern Trail, the Southern Trail, and the
25 Central Trail, respectively, of the Abraham Lincoln Highway;
26 and be it further
 
27     RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
28 is requested to erect appropriate plaques or signs giving
29 notice of the Abraham Lincoln Highway and the Northern Trail,
30 the Southern Trail, and the Central Trail of the Abraham

1 Lincoln Highway; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
3 delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
4 Transportation and to the communities of Williamsville,
5 Petersburg, Springfield, and Athens.
