 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois wish to thank the members of the Theta
 4    Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi  Alpha  Fraternity,  Inc.  for
 5    their extensive philanthropic work; and

 6        WHEREAS,  The  Theta  Mu  Lambda Chapter sponsors several
 7    initiatives, including the Annual Black  History  Month  Play
 8    every February at the Illinois Theatre Center in Park Forest;
 9    volunteer   work   at   the   South  Suburban  Public  Action
10    Development Shelter; Project Alpha, which is a national Alpha
11    Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. project; the Leaders  Of  Tomorrow
12    Project  and  Luncheon;  and  the  Go  To  High School, Go To
13    College Workshops to help African American young men complete
14    high school, and then graduate from college; and

15        WHEREAS, Each year, Theta Mu Lambda awards the Richard L.
16    Storey Scholarship to minority high school males as  well  as
17    assisting  students  with  finding  other  scholarships;  the
18    chapter   organizes  and  sponsors  Career  Day  and  members
19    volunteer to serve as mentors for young African American men;
20    the mentors serve as role models who work to help  the  young
21    men  with  their personal lives, career, and education, while
22    providing guidance; and

23        WHEREAS,  Theta  Mu  Lambda  participates  in  Alpha  Phi
24    Alpha's Annual Leadership Weekend during the summer, which is
25    an educational and personal leadership  retreat  for  minorty
26    college  students;  the  chapter  is  active  in  voting  and
27    supporting  the  Black Greek Graduate Chapter in the National
28    Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago (N.P.H.C.); and

29        WHEREAS, The Theta Mu Lambda Chapter participates in  and
30    supports  several programs that are sponsored by the N.P.H.C.
31    of Chicago, including the Ecumenical Service, the  Children's
32    Book  Drive  and  Toiletry  Drive,  the  annual  Sickle  Cell

 1    Walk-A-Thon,  the  annual Career Fair, the Sankofa Breakfast,
 2    and the Adopt-A-Family Networking Event; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 4    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 5    we thank the members of Alpha  Phi  Alpha  Fraternity,  Inc.,
 6    Theta  Mu  Lambda  Chapter, for their extensive philanthropic
 7    work; and be it further

 8        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 9    presented  to  the Theta Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
10    Fraternity, Inc. as an expression of our respect and esteem.
