| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Geoffrey | 4 |
| Christopher Michael Plampin on February 28, 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Geoffrey Plampin was born on March 4, 1923, at the | 6 |
| U.S. Army base in Fort McPherson, Georgia; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Plampin started college at Georgia Tech, then | 8 |
| joined the U.S. Army Air Force in the spring of 1941; after | 9 |
| Officer's Candidate School, he became the second youngest | 10 |
| lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force and rose to the rank of | 11 |
| Captain before the end of the war; he served at various bases | 12 |
| in the U.S. as well as in B29 squadrons in Morocco and Guam; | 13 |
| and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Plampin transferred to the | 15 |
| University of Chicago, where he converted to Catholicism and | 16 |
| studied Medieval English History; he received his A.B. in 1957 | 17 |
| and became editor of Official Publications and Dissertation | 18 |
| Secretary for the University, successor to Kate Turabian; he | 19 |
| edited over 14,000 dissertations during his career; in 1962, he | 20 |
| became the Vice-Marshall of the University; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Plampin married Barbara Eleanor Wykes in 1961; | 22 |
| they welcomed two children, Christopher and John, and one | 23 |
| grandson, Christopher Jan; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Plampin retired from the University in 1992; | 25 |
| he served at various times on the boards of the Quadrangle | 26 |
| Club, the Renaissance Society, and the Gilbert and Sullivan | 27 |
| Opera Company; he performed in Faculty Revels, at Court | 28 |
| Theatre, Rockefeller Chapel, Gilbert and Sullivan at Mandel | 29 |
| Hall, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, and other venues; he | 30 |
| loved character roles; he also made industrial films, |

| commercials, and blurbs for Channel 11; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Plampin and his wife left Hyde Park in 1988 | 3 |
| and moved to Dune Acres, Indiana; he served as Dune Acres | 4 |
| Police Commissioner and as Building Commissioner; there were | 5 |
| many things he had a passion for: language; history; opera; | 6 |
| classical music; ballet; the theatre; and especially cultural | 7 |
| trips to Europe; New York, New York; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and | 8 |
| San Francisco, California; he read in abundance, mainly | 9 |
| thrillers, mysteries, biographies, and he enjoyed political | 10 |
| and other news; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Plampin loved family and friends, always | 12 |
| filling the formal dining table for Christmas and other | 13 |
| holidays; he especially enjoyed the company of the younger | 14 |
| Plampins; therefore, be it
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 17 |
| mourn the passing of Geoffrey Christopher Michael Plampin, and | 18 |
| we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all | 19 |
| who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to the family of Geoffrey Christopher Michael Plampin | 22 |
| as an expression of our sincere condolences.
