| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Sandra Bury, an Oak | 4 |
| Lawn optometrist, on being recognized as the 2004 "Young | 5 |
| Optometrist of the Year" by the American Optometric | 6 |
| Association; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Since her graduation from the Illinois College of | 8 |
| Optometry in 1995, Dr. Bury has accepted leadership | 9 |
| responsibility in her professional organization, the Illinois | 10 |
| Optometric Association; and | 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Bury's activities involve the Oak Lawn Rotary | 12 |
| Club, the Illinois Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity | 13 |
| (VOSH) Illinois Chapter, and many board memberships; she was | 14 |
| awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award for her | 15 |
| leadership and volunteer service in the Oak Lawn Rotary Club; | 16 |
| the Rotary Club is dedicated to providing services in the | 17 |
| community, state, nation, and the world to those in need; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, In her service to humanity through VOSH, Dr. Bury | 19 |
| has been to six foreign countries as a volunteer optometrist, | 20 |
| paying her own expenses to examine the eyes of the poor; her | 21 |
| trips include leading a mission to Nicaragua, and co-leading | 22 |
| missions to Peru and Lithuania; the mission leader must make | 23 |
| all physical arrangements in the host country and recruit all | 24 |
| personnel, including other optometrists and support persons as | 25 |
| well as supervise the collection and packing of eight to ten | 26 |
| thousand pairs of used eye glasses; she has also been to | 27 |
| Mexico, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic; each VOSH mission | 28 |
| usually examines 1,500 to 2,000 persons; she and her associate | 29 |
| in practice, Dr. Floyd Woods, traveled to Lithuania and were | 30 |
| doing examinations on 9/11/01; and

| WHEREAS, Dr. Bury currently participates in several |

| domestic missions throughout Chicagoland and established a | 2 |
| mission in her hometown to examine the eyes of the homeless | 3 |
| through the PADS program; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, She is currently President of the South Suburban | 5 |
| Optometric Society of the Illinois Optometric Association; | 6 |
| during her presidency she has helped, with the assistance of | 7 |
| the West Suburban Optometric society, to charter a new | 8 |
| optometric society in the Joliet area; this is the first new | 9 |
| optometric society to be organized in Illinois in many years; | 10 |
| and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Bury is a member of the Professional Advisory | 12 |
| Council of the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually | 13 |
| impaired; and Prevent Blindness America recognized Dr. Bury | 14 |
| with a "Woman of Vision Award" in 2002; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Bury has assembled a wonderful staff of highly | 16 |
| trained, capable technicians, receptionists, and opticians to | 17 |
| assist her in her private practice of optometry; without her | 18 |
| skilled staff, Dr. Bury would not be able to accomplish the | 19 |
| recognition she has earned; and

| WHEREAS, Dr. Bury will be recognized for her achievements | 21 |
| at the annual meeting of the American Optometric Association in | 22 |
| Orlando, Florida on June 24th, 2004; therefore, be it | 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 24 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 25 |
| congratulate Dr. Sandra Bury on being recognized as the 2004 | 26 |
| "Young Optometrist of the Year" and recognize all her hard work | 27 |
| and dedication; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 29 |
| presented to Dr. Sandra Bury as an expression of our respect | 30 |
| and esteem.
