| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with great sadness of the death of | 4 |
| Naomi Grant on August 3, 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Naomi Grant was born on December 2, 1911, in | 6 |
| Grenada, Mississippi; she was the eleventh of fifteen children | 7 |
| born to the union of Thomas and Mender Moore; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Grant came to Chicago in her youth and was | 9 |
| educated in the Chicago Public Schools and graduated from | 10 |
| Wendell Phillips High School in 1930; she married Henry Grant | 11 |
| in 1932 and they had four sons, Henry Jr., Raymond, Donald, and | 12 |
| Jamus; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, She was employed by the historic South | 14 |
| Center/Fuller Department Store; while at South Center, she was | 15 |
| an active member of the AFL-CIO Labor Union and was outspoken | 16 |
| against wage and discrimination issues; she later was employed | 17 |
| at Evans Furriers, where she earned recognition for | 18 |
| "Outstanding Salesperson" for more than ten consecutive years; | 19 |
| and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Grant was an active member of the Grant | 21 |
| Memorial AME Church, where she served on a number of | 22 |
| auxiliaries, and was a Bible class leader and a matron; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Naomi Grant will be deeply felt by | 24 |
| many including her devoted sons, Henry Jr. (Jean), Raymond | 25 |
| (Lynn), and Jamus Grant; her "play daughter", Ethel Lawrence; | 26 |
| her special friend, William Fuller; her 15 grandchildren; her | 27 |
| 30 great-grandchildren; her 10 great-great-grandchildren; her | 28 |
| 10 first generation nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives | 29 |
| and friends; and |

| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, and all | 2 |
| of her siblings; therefore, be it
| 3 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 4 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 5 |
| mourn the passing of Naomi Grant along with all who knew and | 6 |
| loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and | 7 |
| friends; and be it further
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 |
| presented to the family of Naomi Grant as an expression of our | 10 |
| deepest sympathy.
