1 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
3 background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
4 advancing the public good, having been employed as an
5 entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of
6 California, and President of the United States; and
7 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction
8 for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of
9 America, the second of which he earned the confidence of
10 three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of
11 the 50 states in the general election, a record unsurpassed
12 in the history of American presidential elections; and
13 WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a
14 bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring
15 accountability and common sense to government which led to an
16 unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions
17 of Americans; and
18 WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed
19 forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America,
20 her values and those cherished by the free world, and
21 prepared America's Armed Forces to win the Gulf War; and
22 WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through
23 strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate
24 demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights
25 for millions of people; and
26 WHEREAS, On February 6, 2003, Ronald Reagan will have
27 reached the age of ninety-two years; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
30 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize February
31 6, 2003 and subsequent yearly anniversaries thereafter as

1 "Ronald Reagan Day"; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to President Ronald Reagan with our best wishes.
