1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Chester
4 Milton De Graff of South Holland on June 22, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. De Graff was born in South Holland on
6 October 19, 1922; he was the oldest child of Isaac and Minnie
7 De Graff; he grew up in South Holland and graduated from
8 McKinley Grade School and Thornton High School; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. De Graff valiantly served his country in the
10 U.S. Army during World War II from December of 1942 until
11 November of 1945; he worked for 11 years at Bliss & Laughlin
12 in Harvey, 2 years at Union Realty Mortgage Company in
13 Chicago, and 28 years at First Savings & Loan of South
14 Holland, where he was Executive Vice President; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. De Graff and Henrietta Dykstra were married
16 on November 8, 1946; Mr. De Graff was an active member of
17 First Reformed Church of South Holland throughout his entire
18 life, where he served as deacon; he was a member and
19 treasurer of Calvin Christian School Board and served on the
20 finance committee at Illiana Christian High School; and
21 WHEREAS, The passing of Chester M. De Graff has been
22 deeply felt by all who knew him, especially his wife,
23 Henrietta De Graff (nee Dykstra); his sons, Don (Nyla) and
24 Roger (Patti); his grandchildren, Cari Lee (Kyle) De Young,
25 Chad Alan (Jen) De Graff, David Lee (Nicole) De Graff, Curt
26 Alan De Graff, Cristi Lynn De Graff, and Debra Lynn De Graff;
27 and his great-grandchildren, Luke Alan De Young, Anna Grace
28 De Young, Audra Claire De Graff, Sara Grace De Young, and
29 Maggie Joan De Graff; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY
31 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1 Chester Milton De Graff, and we extend our sincere
2 condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and
3 loved him; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the family of Chester Milton De Graff as an
6 expression of our deepest sympathy.
