To the Honorable Members of the

Illinois House of Representatives 

94th General Assembly

Pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(b) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby veto

­House Bill 1334, entitled “AN ACT concerning transportation.”   House Bill 1334 increases the maximum allowable weight limits for concrete mixer trucks on both state and local roads.  Over time, the structural impact of these increases will cost taxpayers more in repair and replacement costs.  More importantly, trucks operating under such payloads undermine the safety designs of our bridges and culverts.  Increasing these limits could compromise the safety of others users of our roadways. 

            For this reason, I hereby veto and return House Bill 1334.
