| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Pastor C.L. Fairchild was born September 4, 1936, | 3 |
| in Cotton Plant, Arkansas; he is married, has six children, and | 4 |
| is the proud Pastor of Greater Faith Church-Baptist of | 5 |
| Waukegan; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Fairchild was called to Greater Faith | 7 |
| Church-Baptist in February 1979, where he provides spiritual | 8 |
| guidance and support to members of the congregation; he has | 9 |
| increased the church membership from less than 100 to over 1000 | 10 |
| and has been instrumental and personally responsible for the | 11 |
| purchase of three pieces of property, including the present | 12 |
| church site; he also instituted the church tithing program, | 13 |
| organized the Matron Board, whose services include visiting the | 14 |
| sick and evangelical outreach services, and has aired radio | 15 |
| broadcast services since 1980; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, In 2001, he was given a vision to enlarge and | 17 |
| build a new sanctuary; this edifice was completed in May 2002, | 18 |
| with space for a multi-purpose building; the Greater Faith | 19 |
| family is still celebrating this achievement; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, He is known throughout the United States and | 21 |
| abroad as a dynamic preacher, teacher, evangelist, singer, | 22 |
| civil rights leader, humanitarian, and scholar, and has held | 23 |
| numerous positions of importance throughout the Christian | 24 |
| community, both locally and nationally; and
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Fairchild's musical abilities are | 26 |
| phenomenal; he produced the first recording in the 116th-year | 27 |
| history of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., which | 28 |
| was nominated in 1998 for a Stella Award; under his tutelage, | 29 |
| his local choir, fondly known as the "Voices", have not only | 30 |
| excelled in the field of gospel music, they have reached a | 31 |
| spiritual pinnacle that few have achieved in a lifetime of |

| singing; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, He has directed and taught music workshops and | 3 |
| choir and voice theory across the United States; among his many | 4 |
| other honors and awards, he won the coveted James Cleveland | 5 |
| award in 2003; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Fairchild's theology education continues; | 7 |
| he attended the Chicago Baptist Institute and received a | 8 |
| Bachelor of Theology degree from Tennessee School of Religion | 9 |
| in Memphis; his earlier education was completed in Chicago; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He is currently the public relations officer for | 11 |
| the North Shore
Baptist Ministers Alliance, where he previously | 12 |
| held the offices of president
and vice president; he is past | 13 |
| president of the Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion, Coalition for | 14 |
| Better Government; he is a member of the board of directors for | 15 |
| the McKinley Theological Seminary, the National Baptist | 16 |
| Convention U.S.A. Inc., and E.C. Morris Institute of Arkansas | 17 |
| Baptist College; he is the chairman of the evangelistic Chicago | 18 |
| Baptist Conference; he is the past superintendent of evangelism | 19 |
| of the Baptist General State Convention, and the past secretary | 20 |
| of the evangelism board, NBC, USA, Inc., and co-chairman of the | 21 |
| Late Night Services, NBC, USA, Inc.; he is a life member of | 22 |
| Operation Push, NAACP, and Urban League; therefore, be it
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 25 |
| we honor Pastor C.L. Fairchild for improving and enriching the | 26 |
| lives of countless people in so many ways and thank him for his | 27 |
| inspirational service to his church and to the community at | 28 |
| large; and be it further
| 29 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 30 |
| presented to Pastor C.L. Fairchild as an expression of our | 31 |
| utmost appreciation and gratitude.
