| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Helen | 4 |
| Portia Kelly of Chicago on September 10, 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born September 22, 1919 in Nashville, | 6 |
| Tennessee, the first born of Ethel Johnson Kelly and Cato | 7 |
| Kelly; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Her parents moved to Chicago when she was a young | 9 |
| child and her elementary education began in Chicago; after her | 10 |
| parents separated, she went to live in Clarksville, Tennessee | 11 |
| with her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Kelly; she completed her | 12 |
| formal education in Clarksville, after which she attended Fisk | 13 |
| University in Nashville, Tennessee where her mother lived; she | 14 |
| later returned to Chicago and attended the University of | 15 |
| Chicago; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, She married Richard A. Griffin on November 5, | 17 |
| 1953; they loved to travel and spent much of their married life | 18 |
| traveling around the world, living a full and happy life; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Her sister, her only sibling, preceded her in | 20 |
| death; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Helen Portia Kelly is felt by all | 22 |
| who knew and loved her, especially her devoted and loving | 23 |
| husband, Richard; her cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her | 24 |
| many friends and church family; therefore, be it
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 27 |
| we mourn the passing of Helen Portia Kelly along with all who | 28 |
| knew and loved her and we extend our sincere condolences to her | 29 |
| family, friends, and community; and be it further
