| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Education is one of the most noble pursuits one | 3 |
| can choose in life; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Sherry R. Eagle, Superintendent of Schools for | 5 |
| Aurora West School District 129, will be retiring after 34 | 6 |
| years in education; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Eagle received her B.A. in elementary | 8 |
| education with honors in 1970; she earned an M.S.T. in reading | 9 |
| education/curriculum development with honors in 1974 and a | 10 |
| C.A.S. in educational administration/curriculum development | 11 |
| with honors in 1982; she earned her Ed.D. in leadership and | 12 |
| educational policy studies with honors in 1994; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Eagle began her teaching career at Caroline | 14 |
| Sibley Elementary School in Calumet City in 1971 as a third | 15 |
| grade teacher; she was a reading specialist from 1975 to 1985 | 16 |
| at Thornwood High School, where she worked as Assistant | 17 |
| Principal for Curriculum and Special Education from 1985 to | 18 |
| 1989; she has served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Aurora | 19 |
| University since 1995; in 1989, she became the Assistant | 20 |
| Superintendent for Curriculum of the Aurora West School | 21 |
| District 129, where she has served as Superintendent of Schools | 22 |
| since 1993; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, During her educational career, Dr. Eagle has | 24 |
| several noted accomplishments; she designed and implemented | 25 |
| PreK-12 programs in reading, mathematics, sciences, social | 26 |
| studies, fine arts, physical education, foreign language, | 27 |
| health occupations, and technology; she created high school and | 28 |
| middle school alternative education schools in partnership | 29 |
| with the City of Aurora, East Aurora School District, Indian | 30 |
| Prairie School District, and the Quad County Urban League that | 31 |
| have virtually eliminated the need for expulsion of students; |

| she changed the District bond rating from Baa to A+, which | 2 |
| resulted in savings of several hundred thousand dollars for | 3 |
| taxpayers; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, She implemented partnerships that maximize School | 5 |
| District 129's human and fiscal resources; she has managed the | 6 |
| District budget that has tripled in revenues; under her | 7 |
| leadership two new elementary schools and two new middle | 8 |
| schools were designed and constructed, five new additions were | 9 |
| built, renovations of all district buildings were conducted, | 10 |
| and she was responsible for acquiring land and equipment | 11 |
| totaling over $150,000,000; she developed and implemented the | 12 |
| School District 129 Read With Me Foundation to promote a | 13 |
| community reading campaign and produced and directed three Leap | 14 |
| Year Follies, raising $25,000 for the Foundation for the West | 15 |
| Aurora Schools; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, She has been the recipient of several awards and | 17 |
| honors; she was a member of Pi Lambda Theta National Honor | 18 |
| Society at the University of Chicago; she received the Friend | 19 |
| of Education Award from the Illinois Education Association in | 20 |
| 1987; she was an NIU Candidate for AASA Outstanding Graduate | 21 |
| Student in 1992; she was named one of the Women of Distinction | 22 |
| by the YWCA in 1993, received the Leading Us in Commerce and | 23 |
| Industry Award in 1998, the Break the Mold Superintendent by | 24 |
| the Illinois State Board of Education in 2001, the Quad County | 25 |
| Urban League Leadership Award in 2002, the League of United | 26 |
| Latin American Citizens "Excellence in Education Award" in | 27 |
| 2004, and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Aurora | 28 |
| University in 2004; and
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Eagle is very active in her community and | 30 |
| State and has been a presenter and commencement speaker at | 31 |
| several notable events; therefore, be it

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 2 |
| we congratulate Dr. Sherry R. Eagle on the occasion of her | 3 |
| retirement, and we thank her for many years devoted to the | 4 |
| education of students; and be it further
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 |
| presented to Dr. Eagle as an expression of our respect and | 7 |
| esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
