AMENDMENT TO HOUSE RESOLUTION 770

2     AMENDMENT NO. ___. Amend House Resolution 770 by replacing
3 lines 2 through 28 on page one and all of page 2 with the
4 following:
 
5     "WHEREAS, It is the tendency of many schools across the
6 State to separate twins, triplets, or other multiple siblings
7 into different classrooms upon entering the school system; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The separation of multiples when entering the
9 school environment can be detrimental to the support system
10 between multiples; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Each multiple is an individual; therefore,
12 separation in school is not necessary to develop their
13 individuality; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Separation of multiples in school can cause
15 hardship to the parents who have to deal with different class
16 schedules and activities; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The fact that the policy of separating multiples
18 has been followed by many schools does not mean that it is the
19 better or the correct policy; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Each set of multiples is different; while some

1 multiples will do better when placed together, others do better
2 when separated; therefore, placement of multiples should be
3 determined on a case-by-case basis with priority given to the
4 preference of the parents; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we recommend that all school districts in the State develop a
8 policy concerning the separation of multiples that considers
9 each set of multiples on a case-by-case basis and takes into
10 consideration the preference of the parents and the best
11 interest of the children; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13 delivered to the State Board of Education and the State
14 Superintendent of Education for distribution to each school
15 district in the State.".
